University Recommendation *October entrance only University Recommendation is a system that allows the university to apply to MEXT for scholarships for excellent foreign students newly arriving in Japan from countries with which the Japanese government has diplomatic relations. This system is generally open only to graduate-level students. Please note that this system is not necessarily offered every year. The system for applying by University Recommendation differs depending on the graduate school. Please contact the graduate school you wish to enter if you have any questions. Tohoku University Graduate Schools Tohoku University Academic Research Staff   Embassy Recommendation Embassy recommendation selections for both the graduate and undergraduate levels are conducted by the Japanese diplomatic missions in each country and MEXT. For details, please contact the embassy or consulate in your country.   The below instruction, "How to obtain a Letter of Provisional Acceptance" is for only graduate-level students who passed the first screening at a Japanese diplomatic mission.   How to obtain a Letter of Provisional Acceptance The candidates who pass the first screening conducted by the Japanese diplomatic missions are required to obtain a Letter of Provisional Acceptance from a university in Japan by the designated date. Based on the application guideline published by MEXT, all candidates who wish to obtain the letter from Tohoku University need to send an email to the email address the diplomatic missions share with the candidates and follow its guidance. Please note that it is not permitted to contact a faculty member without following this instruction.   Notes - Before sending an e-mail to Tohoku University, please be sure to thoroughly read the application guideline "APPLICATION GUIDELINES JAPANESE GOVERNMENT (MEXT) SCHOLARSHIP (RESEARCH STUDENTS)" published by MEXT and shared with the applicants by the Japanese diplomatic missions. - If the rules and instructions stated in the application guideline published by MEXT are not complied with, if a false declaration is confirmed, or if there is any disobedience to instructions from the university, a provisional acceptance letter may not be issued even during the screening process. - Even in the case that a Letter of Acceptance is issued, those who wish to enroll in a degree course at Tohoku University must take an entrance examination.
