This program prepares students with advanced research skill in their specialized field as well as deep understanding and knowledge of Japanese culture and Japanese corporate through introductory education and practical education before and after enrollment. English is the primary language for instruction in the courses and for research supervision. There is one major, Advanced Interdisciplinary Science and Technology, with 9 fields of study as described below. Applicants must be non-Japanese nationals residing outside Japan. Applicants are encouraged to consult early with either a prospective supervising professor or the Admissions Division (Nyushi-ka) in order to receive proper guidance for application. Contents The admitted students will formally belong to one of the following fields of Study in the Doctoral Program in the Graduate School of Engineering: Applied Physics, Molecular Engineering, Applied Chemistry and Biotechnology, Mechanical and System Engineering, Intelligent Information Systems, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Architecture and Civil Engineering, Frontier Fiber Technology and Science, and Nuclear Power and Energy Safety Engineering. After satisfying all program requirements, students will complete the graduate course, thereby receiving a Doctoral degree in Engineering. This program consists of five major course categories regardless of students&#8217; major; Open Education Courses, Practical Training / International Experience Courses, Debate Courses, Advanced Courses, and Research Seminar. For details, see the Procedures below. In the Doctoral Program, research in specialized subjects is very important. Successful completion is essential particularly in the final examination and in the assessment of the doctoral thesis guided by students&#8217; main supervisors. Other requirements for completing GEP for R&D are to be registered for 3 years or more and to earn a minimum of 19 credits. Proficiency in the Japanese language is necessary for daily life both on and off campus. For the purpose of learning the Japanese language, foreign students can enroll in Japanese language courses offered at the International Center after acceptance by the university. Credits for Japanese language courses will not be given, yet a certificate for completion of the course may be issued upon request.
